Kathryn Hopkins is working with two cooperators in Somerset county, Maine on improved sugar maple trials. The first is the Goodwill Hinckley School which offers its students a livelihood strategies curriculum in addition to their regular studies. The school is located on a working farm that the students help run. Kathy is working with Junior High and High School aged students and their teacher Hank Gascoyne to plant improved sugar maples along the edge of a hay field. (see photos at right)

Kathy is also working with cooperator Jeremy Steeves to plant improved sugar maples. Jeremy is an organic maple producer, and the Secretary/Treasurer of the Maine Maple Producers Association. The operation is part of a family farm that Jeremy runs with his father and brother, which also produces beef cattle.
