Adult and youth educators are critical
to disseminating correct information about the sustainable management
of forest and natural resources. The majority of New York’s
private forest owners want more information about how to be good
stewards of their land, yet they often don’t know where
to turn for assistance. Cornell Cooperative Extension, through
the county extension system, provides the core of forestry and
natural resources educators in the state. These educators are
trained in a variety of forest, natural resource and environmental
fields; have connections to the Cornell University campus for
interaction on research and extension projects; and have a powerful
network of other CCE educators throughout the state to share educational
successes and strategies. CCE educators are connected within their
community to people who help form policies that affect the management
and sustainability of private forest lands. Without CCE, forestry
education in New York would accomplish only a small amount of
what is currently accomplished.
ForestConnect will help forestry
and natural resource educators, from CCE and elsewhere, be more
efficient in their jobs and have broader and deeper impacts. All
materials on the ForestConnect webpage are available, free of
charge, for educational uses if credit is given to the author
and to ForestConnect. This webpage provides the following resources.
