Half of the GAP Analysis project focuses on vegetation and land types, but the other half focuses on animal distributions. Using the information garnered from satellite imagery, it will be possible to predict the distribution of the various vegetative types in New York State. If an animal's habitat preferences are known, it should therefore be possible to predict the distribution of various animal species across the state. The following three links (reptiles & amphibians, birds, and mammals) all demonstrate how this theoretical knowledge may be applied in the real world.
