Michael L. Farrell M.P.S. - SUNY - College of Environmental Science and Forestry - 2003 Michael Farrell originally joined the Department of Natural Resources in 2004 to work in partnership with the NYS DEC as a Public Service Forester. Since 2005, he has served as the Northern NY Maple Specialist and Director of the Uihlein Forest in Lake Placid. Research His current research examines (1) the growth potential of the North American maple industry based on ecologic, socioeconomic, and policy-based factors (2) sugarbush management for optimal sap production and forest health (ii) genetic improvement and propagation of sugar maple seedlings with increased sap sugar concentrations. Mike serves as the Northern NY Maple Specialist, focusing his maple related extension activities for the 10 counties in the northern part of the state. Extension activities include working with both maple producers and consumers to enhance the viability and profitability of the New York maple industry. At the Uihlein Forest, Mike offers guided educational tours for maple producers and those interested in maple production. |
