(April 1-June 30, 2007)
• Phase IIIB mail survey and telephone follow-up survey implemented.
• Attended BRMD retreat.
• Restructured and submitted “Community and Participation” paper for edited book chapter on governance and the differentiated countryside
• Participated in Yellowstone Wildlife Health Program Workshop.
• Submitted (with Margaret Wild and Shawn Riley) abstracts for presentations at
summer ’07 WDA and TWS conferences.
• Members of planning committee for first Int’l Human Dimensions conference, to be held in 2008.
• Coordinated HDRU seminar for Natural Resource Program Center featuring Heather Wieczorek Hudenko speaking about her human-coyote study, which led to further discussion of potential NPS project on HD of human-carnivore interactions (habituation, co-tolerance, etc.).
Dan's additional activities:
• Continued to work with BRMD in Fort Collins, CO.
• Served as moderator for GWS conference session on habituation.
• Working with Greg Eckert on description of process to derive desired future conditions
that integrates human dimensions consideration.
• Continued to assist with planning (with Margaret Wild) in group Glenn Plumb (YELL) pulled together for planning
workshop to launch Yellowstone Wildlife Health Program.
• With Jerry Mitchell, Mike Mayer, and Margaret Wild, conducted an effort to develop some
guidance for parks considering need for management of cervids requiring lethal removal of
individuals or reduction of overall population.
• Continued to work on development of an advising and training tool for assisting natural resource managers
in articulating and analyzing the management environment in which they operate for specific
programs (i.e., development of managers’ models—concept maps—that encourages a systematic approach
to describing management systems and allows clarity in communication about such systems).
Kirsten's additional activities:
• Served as elected GPSA representative for DNR.
• Won student travel grant and presented research at The George Wright Society biennial meeting.
• Guest lecturer for course: Community Involvement in Environmental Decisions.
• Won ISSRM student paper competition for manuscript “The Tragedy of Becoming Common.”
• Presented departmental public seminar on dissertation.
• Successfully completed B-exam (dissertation defense).
• Presented research at the International Symposium for Society and Natural Resources
• Participated in effort to develop guidance for parks considering need for management of cervids requiring lethal removal of individuals or reduction of overall population.
• Member of BRMD Communications team.
• Initiated contact with Biscayne for TAR regarding restoration of seagrass meadows and recreational boating.

• Conduct “Thinking Like a Manager” workshop for Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (with Shawn Riley and Bill Siemer, September).
• Continue to serve as members of planning committee for first International Human Dimensions conference, to be held in 2008.
• Revise book chapter “Community and Participation” for edited book on governance and the differentiated countryside

Kirsten's additional activities:
• Present paper on human-wildlife conflicts at The Wildlife Society meeting (September).
